    With various local and international guests Katara's S’hail 2017 to kick off on Wednesday various local and international guests Katara's S’hail 2017 to kick off on WednesdayThe Cultural Village Foundation- Katara is poised to launch the first edition of Katara International Hunting and Falcon Exhibition "S’hail 2017" on Wednesday, the 20th of September9/16/2017 10:00:00 PM<p>​</p><p>with many local, Arab and international participants: 54 from Qatar; 15 from Kuwait; 5 from Spain; 4 from Pakistan; 3 from Germany; and one from the US, England, France, South Africa, Azerbaijan and Lebanon. Participants include suppliers of hunting vehicles, tools, equipment and falcon-related entities.      </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Commenting about the exhibition, the General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara and Chairman of the International Hunting and Falcon Exhibition Organizing Committee, H.E. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, declared; "The exhibition has been named S'hail; which is a star that is traditionally known for being closely linked to the hunting seasons. Traditional names are not new for Katara events as, Katara always opts for traditional names for its festivals and competitions such as, El-Meyna and Al-Habbal competitions, Senyar Championship for fishing and pearl diving, Marmi Festival and Al Galayel competition."</p><p style="text-align:justify;">"By this common practice, Katara aims to highlight the cultural heritage in Qatar and the wider region and help combine tradition and modernity in our creative efforts to build bridges with our heritage, on one hand, and with the world on the other. Such creative efforts would enrich the cultural process which will hopefully keep expanding, evolving, growing and thriving", Katara's Chief added.                </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Extending special thanks to the sponsors of this first edition; Qatar National Bank (the Saker Sponsor), Ooredoo (Gyr Sponsor) and Qatar Airways, the official carrier, he said that the sponsors have been classified and named after the most important falcon species used in the hunting ground in Qatar and the GCC states. The saker sponsor is the top category followed by the peregrine sponsor and gyr sponsor.   </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Dr. Al-Sulaiti praised several entities for their participation and effective presence in Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition; most notably, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, General Authority of Customs, Al Galayl and Marmi competitions, Qatari Society of Al Gannas, Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, Al Rami Sports Club, Souq Waqif Falcon Hospital, Qatar Fine Arts Association, Simaisma Youth Center and Librtha Heritage Center.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>A Diverse-Array of Activities and Events</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Seeking to bring hunting ground atmospheres to its audience, Katara has tried to turn into a scale model for hunting and falconry environment throughout the exhibition days. It has prepared traditional sessions that are reminiscent of those held in the desert in addition to a variety of unique events and activities. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Through the exhibition, visitors will be introduced to different falcon species with more than 400 falcons coming from 3 local farms as well as 9 foreign breeding farms from Spain, Germany, France and Russia. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The exhibition will also feature several falcon veterinary clinics, including; Souq Waqif Falcon Hospital which will conduct the necessary tests for falcons to be bought in the exhibition.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The Ministry of Interior will be one of the distinguished participants at the exhibition as an office will be implemented in the scheduled venue to raise awareness amongst the attendants of all matters related to purchasing and using hunting weapons and observing safety guidelines and all the services offered by the ministry in this regard. The Ministry of Municipality and Environment will participate in the exhibition through two offices: one for issuing falcon passports and health card and the other for displaying houbara bustards in addition to other ministry exhibits.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The organizing committee has been keen to host the world's best hunting arms companies to exhibit different kinds of arms (long-range shotgun/ medium-range shotgun/ short-range shotgun/ air gun) and all the weapon accessories such as telescopes, spare parts, and hunting gear. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The audience will be in for an interesting experience to live the exciting atmosphere of the hunting arena through simulated shooting and air gun event as a part of the participation of Qatar Shooting and Archery Association and Al Rami Sports Club. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Visitors will also enjoy discounts up to 15% at all Katara restaurants throughout the exhibition. The exhibition will feature special restaurants for barbecuing the catch including deer, pigeons, etc. The exhibition visitors will receive substantial discounts from Qatar Airways in addition to many other generous offers.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The exhibition will welcome many international hunting-related brands that cover areas such as camping gear, hunting arms and tools, and safaris which will be offered at significant discounts. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The exhibition will feature cultural stands from several countries including; Morocco, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. These countries will introduce the exhibition visitors to its cultural heritage in hunting and falconry displaying many exhibits such as hunting clothes and tools. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">In addition, several old hunting vehicles will be displayed to give the audience a close picture of the hunting arena in the past. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Underlining the role of arts in promoting heritage, the exhibition will host 15 fine artists who will paint, at the site, a portrait of the hunting environment conveying the atmospheres of the hunting arena to the audience through beautiful and expressive pictures. The artists will be offered an opportunity to display paintings they have drawn before about hunting environment.    </p><p style="text-align:justify;">S'hail 2017 is one of the biggest international falcon exhibitions and has several events and activities including: falcon auction and falcon and hunting exhibitions. Furthermore, the exhibition provides a special stand for handicrafts related to hunting and falcon-related supplies.      </p>

Commenting on the exhibition, the General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation- Katara, H.E Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, outlined Katara's role in supporting traditional events and activities. He pointed out that such endeavors are significant as they encourage the bond between Qataris and their environment and heritage, while at the same time passing on authentic cultural values and traditions to the upcoming generation of young Qataris.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Katara's Chief added, "The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara works eagerly to shed light on Qatar's identity, through its festivals, competitions and events.  It also conveys a vivid picture of Qatar's heritage, by highlighting and presenting its unique aspects to a non-Qatari audience, both inside and outside of Qatar. Investing in culture is one of Katara's objectives and one of its most important challenges, as it calls for investing in innovative activities that enrich the Qatari cultural scene and stimulate tourism.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">"We expect that the first edition of the exhibition will witness a wide range of local and international participants, as this sport is considered to be the passion of many. The fact that it is held at Katara, is a matter of pride for us, as it will enhance the reputation of the Village. Katara is already renowned for its heritage-based activities and has successfully made its presence felt in the tourism-heritage market, in the region and beyond.  By hosting this exhibition, we expect to attract diverse sectors, such as institutes that promote heritage, culture and tourism, and commercial organizations."<strong> </strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Katara's GM also pointed out that the necessary coordination has been held with a number of competent authorities in Qatar to provide all facilities essential to traders, falconers' and hunting weapons institutes. To name a few; the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Municipality and the Environment and the General Authority of Customs. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Katara's International Hunting and Falcons exhibition aims to support various cultural, sport and commercial sectors in hunting and falconry. In addition, the exhibition hopes to boost mutually beneficial relationships between amateur and veteran falcon handlers and traders, as well as to explore products and services that attract the youth towards this heritage sport.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The exhibition will witness activities like, aerial shooting performance by Qatar Shooting Association, archery by Qatar Olympic Committee, Al-Rami sports club which is associated with the ministry of Culture and Sports will present some shooting events, such as: duck, deer, and rabbit shooting. The Shooting Club will also provide a specialized team to greet the public and introduce them to all shooting aspects throughout the duration of the exhibition.     </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Furthermore, the international exhibition promises to offer an array of activities including daily bird auctions, a hunting and falconry exhibition, poetic evenings, informative lectures on the safety of falcon-handlers, training for children on aspects of falconry, in addition to many other first-of-its kind events. The exhibition will also dedicate a pavilion that will showcase traditional hand-crafted items considered essential to hunting and falconry. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The exhibition is scheduled to be held at building 12, at Katara's Wisdom Square.</p>
    Curtains go up on Katara’s Ramadan Festival go up on Katara’s Ramadan FestivalThe Cultural Village Foundation-Katara inaugurated Katara’s Ramadan Festival which is located at Katara’s southern area, on Thursday the 25th of May. 5/26/2017 10:00:00 PM<p>​</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The festival is scheduled to offer an amazing array of activities and events under a theme titled 'Hospitality in various Muslim nations'</p><p style="text-align:justify;">As is the custom each year, the Cultural Village adorned its amenities with light decorations that best suit the spiritual ambiance of the Holy month. Some of the decorations that adorned the entrances to the Cultural Village, where decorated with Ramadan Greetings, and illuminated with lights shaped like minarets and lanterns in vivid colors.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Speaking on this occasion, the Chairman of the Ramadan festival Committee, Mr. Khalid Ibrahim Al-Sayed, said; "The main objective of Katara Ramadan Festival is to promote and enhance the Arab and Islamic culture in an aim to support the activities of the cultural and religious sector in the state of Qatar. This year, the audiences will witness a diverse array of activities throughout the Holy month of Ramadan, as a full-fledged program is organized comprising of more than 200 events, including 168 lectures distributed amongst Katara's premises and mosques. This edition of Ramadan's festival is a golden opportunity for the visitors to acknowledge hospitality traditions and customs in various Muslim nations during Ramadan."</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Throughout the festival, cultural and fine-art tents will be set up at Katara's Southern area, and will include several cultural lectures and workshops presented by a-number-of prominent Qatari intellectuals. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Physical fitness has been given a priority in this edition of the festival. Katara's beach front will come alive with beach volleyball and football matches that are scheduled to take place in the evenings. A new addition to the festival will be Traditional games, which are divided into two categories; brain-teasers and fun games. In addition to FIFA 2017 play station championship, which will be dedicated to males only; nationals and expatriates, aged 10 years old and above.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Every approach has been made to ensure that visitors enjoy a traditional Ramadan experience that balances spirituality with entertainment. The Iftar Cannon will be installed at Katara's southern area and fired daily at Maghrib prayer. In addition, two characters, the Mesaharati and the story teller, will be roaming around Katara's premises to entertain the public. Moreover, every Friday, Katara will bring back the popular treasure hunt contest during the holy month, which will be conducted at Katara's premises and Meerat Ramadan. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">During the Holy month, other informative events, such as; seminars, educational programs, Islamic and cultural lectures has been organized in cooperation with Raf foundation, Qatar Charity, and the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Another event that is being held due to popular demand is the Holy Quran memorization competitions. The event is held for children with the aim to encourage and promote spirituality and strengthen the religious values amongst children. As in the previous year, Katara's mosque will host Tarawih prayer followed by Islamic gatherings and lessons each day.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Meanwhile, the ongoing Meerat Ramadan market which is scheduled to last until the 29<sup>th</sup> of June, being held at Katara's southern area, is an essential event for Katara's Ramadan Festival this year. Meerat Ramadan has become increasingly popular with the visitors as it offers provisions from renowned food and beverage suppliers in the State of Qatar, such as Al-Meera, Baladna Live-stock production, Widam Food, as well as 40 other outlets.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The produce and food items on offer are priced in a way that enables Katara's visitors to meet their grocery requirements at a low cost, during the month of Ramadan. The market also offers a wide array of dates, fresh produce and cupboard staples that are usually in large demand during the Holy month.</p>
