The Cultural Village Foundation – Katara in collaboration with Verona per l’Arena foundation is hosting a prestigious event that will further encourage international cultural exchange. The 4th edition of Oscar Della Lirica, the international opera and classical music Awards, an initiative by well known Italian artist and manager Alfredo Troisi is being held for the first time in the region, at Katara Amphitheatre.
The 1st edition of Oscar Della Lirica took place on the 31st of August 2010, at the Verona Arena and was followed by the 2nd edition in 2012 at the Grande Puccini Open Theatre, at Torre del Lago and subsequently, the 3rd edition at The Municipal Theatre of Bologna in 2013.
The event introduces internationally renowned artists to spectators of the region such as Oscar winner artists opera director Damiano Michieletto, baritone Alberto Gazale, bass Ferruccio Fulaneto, Tenor Francesco Meli, conductor music director Gustavo Dudamel, set designer Lorenzo Cutùli, soprano Marina Agresta and Mezzosoprano Marianna Pizzolato with Enrico Stinchelli as the Master of Ceremony (presenter), Elisabetta Maschio as the Maestro, Carla Bossi, Daniela Traldi and Shigeaki Saegusa as the juries and guest stars like Antonio Forcione, Dimitra Theodossiou, Elisabetta Fiorillo, Chiara Amaru and Gregory Kunde, including new generation artists such as opera prize winner Samantha Sapienza and youngest Italian Opera Tenor Vicenzo Costanzo. Other artist award winners include special award artists: Carlo Bergonzi, Renato Bruson and Qatari artist Abdulaziz Nasser Al Obaidan.
The Award categories are divided into: Soprano, Tenor, Baritone, Mezzo Soprano, Bass, Contralto, Conductor, Orchestra, Choir, Corps de ballet, Costume Designer, Director and Set Designer.
Katara’s keen enthusiasm towards hosting the Oscar Della Lirica at the Amphitheatre is part of the Cultural Village Foundation’s strategy to raise Qatar’s standards and to contribute to the arts. The international opera and classical music awards is also a cultural investment that inspires potential local and international partnerships. Furthermore, all events hosted at Katara amphitheatre are now part of the donation agreement made between the Cultural Village Foundation Katara and IFRC (The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies).
